What is Ronald McDonald House Charities?

Ronald McDonald House Charities is a charity operating in 62 countries around the world. Although it is supported by McDonald’s it is an independent organisation which aims to help families of children with severe health issues stay together during the child’s recovery.

RMHC creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. Recognising how important is the constant presence of a child’s family in such trying times, RMHC has been creating Family Rooms & Family Houses which are always located inside or next to hospitals where children are being treated as well as the Care Mobile which are mobile units that can drive to locations where medical care is not readily available. All spaces are specially designed to offer services to the families of children.

RMHC’s core values are to focus on the critical needs of children, offering a diversity of programs as well as celebrating the staff, volunteers and donors who make them possible. Staying true to its heritage of responsibility it is very important for RMHC to operate with accountability and transparency.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Cyprus

RMHC has been operating in Cyprus in the last few years. The revenues of RMHC Cyprus come from the public, through contributions made in the Ronald McDonald boxes, found in all McDonald's restaurants,  from direct sponsorships by both individuals and companies / organizations (main sponsor is McDonald's Cyprus) as well as from a variety of activities organized from time to time (eg Children's Festival, Head Shave Challenge, RMHC Gala Dinner).

The first major project of RMHC Cyprus was the creation of a Pediatric Clinic for children with heart disease at the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital, which was officially launched in October 2014.

While the organization continues to support the clinic, it has a vision to develop more projects through which to support families in need.

The basic philosophy of RMHC is to keep the families of children with serious illnesses united, especially during the periods of their treatment in hospitals and as such the next objective of RMHC Cyprus, is to build a house (RMHC House) near the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital, which will provide accommodation and care for children and their families. Families from other cities that do not have a direct access to their homes will be hosted at RMHC House, so that they can be close to their children.
