McDonald´s™ Restaurants in Cyprus are operating under the name of Family Restaurants Andreou Co. Ltd. Michalis Andreou, Franchisee and Managing Director, graduated from Dianellios School in Larnaca, specializing in Hotel Management. He served his military duties and worked in Famagusta until the Turkish Invasion in 1974. Michalis emigrated to Wurzburg, Germany and started working with McDonald´s™ as part-time, whilst studying the German language and business administration. In 1981 he opened his first McDonald´s™ restaurant in Konstanz. In 1990 a second restaurant was opened and the following year he opened a third, a drive-thru in Singen. Michalis´ lifetime ambition was to return to Cyprus and introduce McDonald´s™ to the Cypriot people. In 1996, his dream was realized when he was approached to become the McDonald´s™ Developmental Licensee for the whole island of Cyprus. He returned to Cyprus with his wife Margit and his three children and opened his first McDonald´s™ restaurant in June 1997 on the seafront of Phinikoudes in Larnaca, quickly followed by a Drive- Thru restaurant in Engomi, Nicosia. Along with Margit, who was responsible for the Marketing and Finance Departments, they continued working together and succeeded in opening restaurants all over Cyprus. Today, there are 17 McDonald´s™ restaurants throughout the island, employing more than 700 people and working with a lot of local suppliers. Over the years, Family Restaurants Andreou Co. Ltd. has succeeded in establishing the McDonald´s™ brand in the local market, extending their products to meet the demands of customers of all ages. Products relating to the Greek culture and cuisine are also included on the menu. Giving back to the community has been, and remains, one of the most important values of McDonald´s™, with always having as a priority to create a better life for kids and their future. Michalis Andreou has managed, through his hard work and dedication to the system, to make McDonald´s™ the Number One brand in Cyprus.
